US reveals: The truth that emerged after the helicopter crash that killed Ebrahim Raisi
US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that Iran requested assistance from the US after the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his delegation crashed.
Matthew Miller, in his statement to the press, noted that after the helicopter crash involving Raisi and a delegation that included Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Tehran administration requested assistance from the US, but he could not provide details regarding the nature of the aid.
Stating that they conveyed to the other side that they were willing to provide support for "any government in this situation," Miller said, "But ultimately, largely for logistical reasons, we were not able to provide that assistance."
THE HELICOPTER CRASH AND ITS AFTERMATH
President Raisi attended a dam inauguration ceremony on the Iran-Azerbaijan border on May 19. On his return, Raisi, along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and several other officials, was involved in a helicopter crash.
Upon Iran's request, Turkey deployed an Akıncı unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for search and rescue operations. The coordinates of the helicopter wreckage identified by the Akıncı UAV were shared with Iranian authorities. Iranian teams that reached the designated location determined that there were no survivors from the crash.
Following the confirmation of Raisi's death, First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber was appointed as acting president.
According to the Iranian constitution, a council consisting of the speaker of parliament, the head of the judiciary, and the first vice president must make arrangements for a new president to be elected within a maximum of 50 days.
In Iran, presidents are elected by the public from among candidates approved by the Guardian Council.
