US State Department issues statement regarding US-Russia meeting

In a written statement issued by the US State Department, the results of the Rubio-Lavrov meeting held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, were evaluated.

The statement noted that Rubio and Lavrov met following the phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and that delegations from both countries sat down to discuss re-establishing bilateral relations.

Stating that "President Trump wants to stop the deaths, the US wants peace, and is using its power in the world to bring countries together," the statement noted that the parties reached an agreement on the following main topics:

"- Establishing a consultation mechanism to address bilateral relations in order to take the necessary steps to normalize the functioning of the two countries' diplomatic missions.

- Appointing relevant high-level teams to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible in a permanent, sustainable, and mutually acceptable manner for all parties.

- Preparing the ground for cooperation on common geopolitical interests and historical economic and investment opportunities that will arise from ending the war in Ukraine."

The statement also thanked Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for hosting the meeting and emphasized that this process initiated with Russia will continue.
