Fire at student dormitory in Erbil: 14 dead
In the Soran district of Erbil, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, a fire broke out in a 14-story student dormitory, resulting in the deaths of 14 people.
The Kurdistan Region of Iraq saw a fire break out in the city of Erbil during the night. 14 people lost their lives in the fire that occurred in a 14-story student dormitory in the Soran district.
Soran District Governor Helgurd Sheikh Najib announced at a press conference held after the incident that there were 60 people in the building used as a student dormitory and that 7 people were injured in the fire.
In his statement, Najib noted that a university professor was among those who lost their lives. Firefighting teams that arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire have brought the flames under control.
