Firework thrown into sewer by child causes explosion: Young girl seriously injured

A 12-year-old girl threw a firework she was holding into an open sewer cover while walking down the street in Chongqing. The firework thrown by the child caused a methane gas explosion.

On January 27, at approximately 19:38 local time, in Jin'gui Town Square, Longshui Town, Dazu District, Chongqing, a 12-year-old middle school student threw a lit firecracker into a sewer, causing a methane gas explosion.

Security camera footage shows that the explosion created a powerful shock wave. As the young girl tried to run away from the blast, she stepped on another manhole cover that exploded beneath her. The manhole cover, which was blown into the air, caused the girl to be thrown into the air. The girl remained in the air for about 3 seconds before hitting the ground.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the girl was thrown about 10 meters into the air. The girl lost consciousness when she hit the ground.

According to local news sources, emergency teams arrived at the scene quickly after the incident, and the girl was taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to a statement from the Dazu District Emergency Management Bureau, the girl suffered multiple fractures, pericardial effusion, and serious burns to her head and face. It was reported that the girl's life is not in danger.
