Zelensky: We had a very important and productive meeting with Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the phone call he held with US President Donald Trump was "very important and productive." Zelensky stated that the issue of air defense systems was discussed during the call.
US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone conversation. In a post on his social media account, Ukrainian leader Zelensky stated, "I had a very important and productive conversation with Trump.
I congratulated Trump and the entire American people on Independence Day. We are grateful for all the support provided. This support helps us protect our lives and preserve our freedom and independence.
We have achieved much together with the US, and we support all efforts underway to stop the massacres and restore a just, lasting, and honorable peace. A reasonable agreement is needed for peace," he said.
"TRUMP IS VERY WELL INFORMED"
Stating that they discussed the current situation with Trump, including Russia's air attacks and large-scale developments on the front line, Zelensky said, "President Trump is very well informed, and I thank him for the interest he has shown in Ukraine. We discussed opportunities in the field of air defense and agreed that we will work together to strengthen the protection of our skies. We also agreed to hold a meeting between our teams. We had a detailed discussion about increasing defense industry capabilities and joint production. We are ready for direct projects with the US, and we believe this is critically important for security, especially when it comes to unmanned aerial vehicles and related technologies," he noted.
Zelensky noted that they also touched upon mutual supply and investment issues and exchanged views on joint work with the US and other partners.
The meeting took place one day after Trump's conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
US HAD HALTED THE SUPPLY OF SOME WEAPONS
It had been reported that the US had halted the shipment of some critically important weapons to Ukraine, including 30 Patriot air defense missiles, due to dwindling stocks. The Ukrainian administration had warned that this situation would weaken its defense capability against Russia. Ukraine is requesting more from Washington regarding Patriot missiles and systems, which it considers key to countering air attacks.
