The possibility of Volkswagen producing automobiles in Turkey has returned to the agenda. Doğuş Otomotiv has notified the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) that a letter of intent has been signed with Volkswagen Group companies to evaluate options for passenger car production in Turkey.
According to the company's statement dated October 30, 2026, the parties will examine different alternatives regarding the production of Volkswagen-branded automobiles in Turkey. However, this step does not mean that production will definitely begin or that a new factory will be built.
The statement did not provide information on which models the production might cover. There is also no finalized decision yet on topics such as the scale of the potential investment, where the facility could be established, or the production schedule.
Doğuş Otomotiv stated that it aims to offer cars suitable for new technologies to the Turkish market within the scope of the work to be carried out with Volkswagen Group companies. The company assessed that potential production activities could contribute to the Turkish automotive sector.
Volkswagen's production plan in Turkey had previously been on the agenda. The German manufacturer had planned to build an automobile factory in Manisa in 2019, but abandoned this investment in 2020.
There has been no statement from the parties regarding whether the latest letter of intent is linked to the past Manisa project. It is expected that whether a production decision will be made in Turkey and which models might be involved will become clear in the coming period.
