Does DEM represent the Kurds?

Don't leave your news choices to an algorithm - decide for yourself what you read. Add 12punto to your preferred sources!

The source of what they call the Kurdish issue is the persistence of the medieval feudal landlord-tribal system and the dominance of religious sects in areas where Kurds live in high concentrations. It is well known to everyone that the PKK and the DEM Party (including their predecessor parties), which define themselves as leftist, have never engaged in rhetoric against the tribal and landlord systems. The concept referred to as "equal citizenship" does not mean the "principle of equality of citizens before the constitution and the law," but rather the dismantling of the nation-state structure that imperialism does not want in the region through the definition of ethnic separation. The problem lies in the failure to implement the principle of equality of all citizens before the laws that already exist in the constitution, and in the collapse of the rule of law and democratic institutions in Turkey.

Under the guise of fancy slogans that no one could object to, such as a "Turkey without terrorism," the Treaty of Lausanne was opened for debate, and the fundamental pillars of the Republic of Turkey, its secular and unitary structure, were targeted.

Did the AKP and MHP, which supported this process, say in the squares and election manifestos before the elections that autonomy would be granted to Kurds, that the right to education in the mother tongue would be recognized, and that the nation-state model and secular order would be abandoned in favor of the Ottoman ummah system? If they had used such rhetoric, could they have received the same number of votes?

Another question is this: The PKK and DEM act as if they are the representatives of all Kurdish citizens in the country and try to change the structure of the Republic of Turkey, but are the PKK and DEM truly the representatives of all our citizens of Kurdish origin?

Statistics show very clearly that DEM is not the representative of all Kurds.

The voluntary data evaluation organization Polimetre conducted a study based on the 2024 Municipal Council election results. While there may be alliances for mayoral elections in various provinces of Turkey, every party asked for votes for its own council member candidates for municipal councils. Therefore, the municipal council member elections were evaluated, not the mayoral ones. In the map of Turkey below, you will see the votes the DEM+TİP alliance received from every 1,000 voters in each province.

The highest number of votes received by DEM+TİP is 394 per thousand in Şırnak. In provinces where our citizens of Kurdish origin live in high concentrations and which we define as "Traditionally DEM Party" based on the last 10 elections, the DEM+TİP alliance received 344 votes out of every thousand voters in the 2024 Municipal Council elections. In other words, even in the provinces where our citizens of Kurdish origin are most concentrated, the DEM party cannot receive the votes of at least 656 out of every thousand voters.

The votes received by the DEM+TİP alliance from every thousand voters in provinces where Kurds live in high concentrations are as follows:

Diyarbakır 384

Siirt 244

Hakkari 304

Şanlıurfa 170

Van 330

Muş 287

Ağrı 293

Tunceli 113

Kars 172

In contrast, the votes received by the DEM+TİP alliance from every thousand voters in our provinces where Kurds have migrated and live in high numbers are as follows:

Adana 50

İzmir 44

İçel 35

Kocaeli 33

Tekirdağ 31

Aydın 31

Muğla 29

İstanbul 19

Doğru Parti Founding Chairman Rifat Serdaroğlu evaluated these Polimetre data on his X account. I am quoting him:

“DEM officials and the spokespersons of so-called Non-Governmental Organizations in the region, most of whom are PKK supporters, have always lied to the entire Turkish Nation. They said, “We are the owners of the Eastern and Southeastern regions.” “This is Kurdistan.” This lie about votes, which they used as a justification for their insolence in demanding a share of the electricity and water produced by the dams in the region and the oil extracted on Mount Gabar, has been exposed. In none of our cities where our citizens of Kurdish origin live in high concentrations did DEM+TİP receive a majority of the votes? The DEM Party must answer this question;

It will never happen, but let's assume that what you said came true! What will you do with the two-thirds of the total population in the Eastern Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia Regions who reject you and your separatist mentality? Will you expel them from the region?

What will happen to our citizens of Kurdish origin in our provinces such as Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Antalya, Mersin, and Bursa? Will you pull them into the region?”
