Slow War: How can a nation be captured in 20 years?

I took the title above from an article by an author named Patrick Van Hoeserlande in NATO's ThinkBox series. Patrick Van Hoeserlande is a Belgian military engineer and concept development expert. Therefore, Turkey's borders, its nation-state, and its secular state structure will not be changed through rapid wars and occupations as they were in Iraq, Libya, and Syria. A long process, like boiling a frog in cold water, has been put into operation. Numerous articles and books have been written about this process. It struck me as interesting that a NATO Concept and Capability Development expert would write the theoretical infrastructure for this process. Let us first make some excerpts from the article. Then, let us take a look at what we have experienced.

CREATIVITY, COMMUNICATION, AND PATIENCE

"Especially at the strategic level, it is necessary to develop new approaches outside the thought patterns of the enemy and their allies (and the world in general). An indirect approach at low speed requires a determined and creative mind. Every action must be carefully planned, because everything must remain deniable.

Good communication is critical to thicken the fog of war that will conceal what is being done. You will be in a position to accuse the enemy of doing exactly what you are doing. A slow but certain conquest is better than a rapid conquest today. Do not rush to reach the goal. Even if there are some setbacks... Patience, not speed, is essential!

INFILTRATION

The goal of Slow War is, not to swim like a fish in this sea, but to slowly drip salt water into a lake filled with fresh water. Infiltration must be carried out at all levels of power. This can be achieved by providing financial, intellectual, and social aid to the other side and delivering this aid together with the people on the ground. But this goal is not achieved only with 'good and pleasant' people; terrorists and common criminals can also be effective.

ETHNIC GROUPS

In the final stage, the goal is to connect small ethnic groups to create large concentrations. During this process, differences are deepened.

These concentrated groups feel isolated and discriminated against, and begin to demand political rights. If well-prepared, most of these demands are accepted. This strengthens the movement. If they are not accepted, this situation is presented as proof of discrimination. Once they have gained enough strength, the demand for independence is brought to the agenda. This call is supported from the outside by the aggressor country that is "ready to protect" these groups, and the door is opened for annexation (territorial acquisition), which is the ultimate goal.

USE OF ALL FORCES

More so than traditional warfare, Slow War requires the use of all forces.

The powers of a nation are sometimes summarized with this acronym: MID-LIFE

• Military

• Informational

• Diplomatic

• Law enforcement

• IIntelligence

• FFinancial

• EEconomic (such as agriculture, energy)

I would also like to add the following headings to this list:

Politics, Population, Education, Technology, Environment, Ideology...

By using bloc voting to place specific individuals into political offices, you can ensure the passage of laws favoring potential allies. More radical groups can threaten, pressure, or even intimidate individuals who openly oppose them. Through local leaders, you can initiate a war of words to begin.

Celebrities are excellent tools for gathering sympathy and gaining trust. These individuals should engage in dialogue with the public and participate in discussions at universities, libraries, and on radio and TV. This is just the beginning. Afterward, you must begin to slowly take control of the press, TV, radio, and the internet by purchasing media companies. By establishing new businesses in the information and entertainment sectors, you should ensure they grow over time without posing a threat. One day, you will need the media for the following:

• Denying attacks

• Explaining events as misunderstandings

• Showing that your people are being persecuted

• Gathering supporters

CRIME AND INTELLIGENCE

To increase the crime rate, "export" your criminals to target countries and provide them with safe havens. To weaken the sense of security, feed the intelligence system with misinformation sabotage it.

Overwhelm the system with reports of alleged attacks on bridges, tunnels, water resources, airports, and shopping malls. Encourage your own people to constantly report others, but provide the data they are to report yourself.

FINANCE ECONOMY AGRICULTURE HEALTH

To infiltrate the local business world, provide financial support to local companies.

Thus, in the local economy, dependency create, and you can establish strict control over the decisions of companies.

Export the "good things" of your country. Encourage the opening of restaurants.

Send medical experts, engineers, and other professionals so they can secure key positions within the economy. This economic power can then be used to influence political and social decisions.

More actively, the environment can also be used in the following ways:

• Poisoning food chains specific to different culinary habits

• Spreading diseases that target specific groups

TECHNOLOGY

Provide assistance by offering technological support; ensure this support comes with experts.

However, keep the control of that technology in your hands. A good example of this is cyber technology.

Computers and software are ubiquitous. Sleeper software can be embedded within them; these can be activated with a single command.

CULTURE AND EDUCATION

Initially, ideological and religious differences are softened. Later, however, these cultural dividing lines are used to encourage ghettoization. These concentrations strengthen the 'us and them' sentiment necessary for the 3rd stage.

Youth is the future of a nation. Therefore, infiltrating the education system is essential.

By making large donations to universities in America, ensure they establish centers to promote your own culture. Thus, your influence in higher education increases.

POPULATION

Like most wars, the Slow War is about people. The goal here is not to persuade the existing population, but to change them slowly but steadily.

Use these demographic factors to your advantage:

• The rise of mega-cities

• The aging of the local population

• Encouraged population movements through migration and refugees

Grow your ethnic group through means such as high birth rates, intermarriage, and family reunification.

FINAL WORDS

To conduct a Slow War, access to a wide variety of power sources is required.

The diverse and flexible use of these powers makes it possible for the war to remain below the noise threshold and for a country to be conquered in a deniable manner.

Such a war and its objectives can only be detected through trend analysis that borders on paranoia.

Disbelief in conspiracy theories and personnel turnover within institutions (military, intelligence, bureaucracy) further reduce the likelihood of this war being noticed.

COUNTER-REVOLUTION OR OCCUPATION VIA SLOW WAR

This is a broad summary of the seven-page article. In the final words section, the author does not neglect to define those who realize this plan as paranoid individuals producing conspiracy theories. And, of course, they politely refer to the purging of patriots in the military, intelligence, and bureaucracy who would notice this as 'Personnel Turnover'.

In Turkey, we call it 'Counter-Revolution.' The NATO officer defines it as 'The Capture of a Nation via Slow War.' This process began with joining the Marshall Plan in 1948 and entering NATO in 1950.

With the 1980 military coup, Atatürk nationalism and Atatürk's ideology were removed as the state's official ideology, the Turkish-Islamic Synthesis was developed, and during the same period, the Turkish economy, which had not yet completed its industrialization, was integrated into the neoliberal world.

With the 2000 crises, the Kemal Derviş Program, and the AKP government in 2003, the structure of the economy was made entirely dependent on foreign entities. And again, with the AKP government, divisions and polarization occurred in society within the framework of the plan mentioned above. I think we are rapidly approaching the final stage.

IMPERIALISM DOES NOT ABANDON ITS GOAL

Imperialism never abandons its goal. The goal is to control the Middle East, the Eastern Mediterranean, the Straits, the Black Sea, and the Red Sea, which are important in terms of energy fields and trade routes. Control is a long-term and difficult process. Military occupation is a short and easy path, but you cannot hold onto the lands you occupy. The US-Vietnam, Russia-Afghanistan, and US-Afghanistan conflicts are the most concrete examples of this. You also cannot convince the public. It is necessary to transform the public.

We said that imperialism never abandons its goals. Let us also emphasize this: The main defeat of imperialism was not the War of Independence led by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha. There are victories and defeats in war. But what imperialism could not stomach was the emergence of an independent Republic of Turkey from the Ottoman Empire, which was a colonial state. And more importantly, it was the initiation of a development movement using its own resources without the need for the support of imperialist countries. The political and economic independence and development movement of the Republic of Turkey could serve as an example for other Islamic states in the Middle East. Therefore, the political and economic independence of the Republic of Turkey must be collapsed, and its nation-state structure and secular state structure must be eliminated.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN TURKEY IN THE LAST 23 YEARS?

Now, let us summarize what has happened in Turkey over the last 20 years.

We are experiencing a multi-faceted institutional collapse and decay in every field you can think of, from education to health, from law to public order, within the state's institutions.

The legal system and judicial independence have collapsed. The army's trained officer cadre was purged through conspiracy cases such as Ergenekon, Balyoz, and Espionage. The police and gendarmerie began to act like a party-state organization. The state has turned into a party-state where religious sects are partners.

The values that bind us together in the social structure have been eroded over a 23-year period, initially at a slow pace and subsequently with increasing speed. Consider the government's speeches, which heighten tension and polarize society at every opportunity, including during holiday celebrations.

Set aside the immorality of TV channels supported by corporate advertising, with their series that normalize intrigue and violence, and the subconscious operation to collapse social morality through these shows. Remember the denial and perception management operations conducted through the media. Ignorance, robbery, and theft have become skills.

Take into account an economic structure that has detached from production, particularly in agriculture, lost its competitive power, relies on foreign debt, and struggles to survive by paying ever-higher interest on hot money, sinking deeper into the quagmire. There is no young population left in agriculture. The average age of the agricultural workforce has reached 58.

Turkey has become a hub for drug barons and criminal gangs. We rank first in Europe and ninth in the world for organized crime. Add to this the Syrians, Afghans, Africans, and refugees whose exact numbers we do not know but are said to be at least 10 million. Do not forget that the government ruling Turkey, by opening the doors to Syrian refugees, has essentially cleared the land for the establishment of a Kurdish Autonomous Region or a Kurdish State in northern Syria. Also, set aside the separatist PKK terror, which has been a scourge for years, costing at least 50,000 lives and carrying an economic bill (cost plus opportunity costs) of at least 500 billion dollars.

Turkey has become unable to manage its geopolitics due to its dependence on the economy and foreign policy. We appear independent on the surface, but the most important decisions concerning the country are made abroad and dictated to Turkey.

The US Ambassador speaks of the Sykes-Picot Agreement, which partitioned the 'Sick Man' Ottoman Empire during the First World War, and the Treaty of Sèvres, claiming that an injustice was done to the Kurds. The Ambassador does not stop there. He praises the Ottoman Empire's millet-based governance system. He targets Turkey's unitary state structure and secular nature.

Terror is a major crime against humanity. However, as we see and learn from the tactics of Slow War, the reality of what is happening and the perceptions created through propaganda are different things. The question is this:

Is the process labeled as a 'Turkey without terror' truly a process of peace and democracy, or is it a new stage reached in the Slow War?
