3 people referred to courthouse following metrobus accident in Küçükçekmece

Two metrobus drivers and an inspection supervisor have been detained in connection with the metrobus accident in Küçükçekmece that left 53 people injured and 1 person dead. The individuals, whose processing was completed at the Sefaköy Police Station, were referred to the courthouse.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The metrobus, which was traveling toward the Beylikdüzü direction, lost control in the Sefaköy area and struck a metrobus coming from the opposite direction from the side.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED

The Istanbul Governor's Office announced that an investigation has been launched into the incident. The statement from the Governor's Office included the following:

"On Thursday, 29.08.2024, at 08:48, 1 person lost their life and 38 people, 2 of whom are in critical condition, were injured as a result of a collision between two metrobuses in the area of the Küçükçekmece Sefaköy Marriage Office. Immediately after the incident, numerous medical teams were dispatched to the area, and our injured citizens were transported to nearby hospitals. An investigation has been opened into the incident. We wish God's mercy upon our citizen who lost their life and a speedy recovery to our injured."

Meanwhile, it was reported that 2 drivers and 1 inspection supervisor were detained regarding the accident.

1 PERSON DIED, 50 INJURED, 2 IN CRITICAL CONDITION

The Governor's Office later announced in a subsequent statement that the number of injured had risen to 50, and that 7 of them had been discharged after completing their treatment.

In the statement made by the Governor's Office, the information was shared that, "As of now, 1 person has lost their life and 50 people, 2 of whom are in critical condition, have been injured in the metrobus accident that occurred in Küçükçekmece. The treatment of the injured continues in the hospitals to which they were taken, and 7 people whose treatments were completed have been discharged."

Services resumed in both directions some time after the metrobuses were removed from the scene with the help of a tow truck.

PRELIMINARY REPORT ON THE ACCIDENT

It was learned that metrobus driver D.M.Ç. and Ş.Y., who was on duty on the metrobus line, are suspects, while the other 2 individuals were only questioned as witnesses. A preliminary report regarding the accident was prepared by an expert.

The report stated that there was a warning regarding a turn due to the "White Road" work on the metrobus line, and that the accident occurred as a result of the metrobus driver failing to see this warning on the road and attempting to make a sudden turn after missing the point where they were supposed to turn.

FUNERAL OF THE DECEASED YOUNG MAN TAKEN TO THE FORENSIC MEDICINE INSTITUTE

The family of 22-year-old Ferhat Uçar, who lost his life despite all interventions at the hospital where he was taken after being seriously injured in the accident, arrived at Biruni University Hospital upon receiving the news.

Uçar's body was taken from there and transported to the Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy.
