4.0 magnitude earthquake in Istanbul
An earthquake felt in Istanbul and surrounding districts has occurred. AFAD shared information that the earthquake was centered off the coast of Büyükçekmece. Following the earthquake, a statement came from Istanbul Governor Gül.
AFAD announced that a 4.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Sea of Marmara, off the coast of Büyükçekmece, at 23:36. The earthquake took place at a depth of 8.16 kilometers.

KANDİLLİ ANNOUNCED IT AS 4.2
The Kandilli Observatory reported that the alarming earthquake had a magnitude of 4.2.

STATEMENT FROM ISTANBUL GOVERNOR GÜL
Following the 4.0 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Büyükçekmece, Governor Gül made the following statement:
According to AFAD data, a 4.0 magnitude #earthquake has occurred in the Sea of Marmara, off Büyükçekmece.
Get well soon to our citizens affected by the earthquake. No negative incidents have been detected so far.
May God protect our country and our nation from all kinds of disasters.
"IT IS AN EXPECTED SITUATION"
Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan made statements during a live broadcast following the 4.0 magnitude earthquake in Istanbul.
Ercan said the following regarding the earthquake:
It is an expected situation; aftershocks will continue, and they will continue by decreasing in size. Since April 23, the earthquakes have been gradually getting smaller and less frequent. It will continue in this way and the tremors will end.
