8 people arrested in investigation into Silifke Municipality: Mayor among them
In an investigation conducted into the municipality in the Silifke district of Mersin, 8 out of 19 detained suspects have been arrested. Silifke Mayor Mustafa Turgut is among those arrested.
As part of an investigation conducted by the Silifke Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an operation was launched following allegations that certain public officials working at Silifke Municipality and contractors doing business with the municipality committed crimes including bribery, establishing and managing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes, membership in an organization, bid rigging, corruption in the performance of duties, and misconduct in office.
Within the framework of the investigation, evidence obtained through reports from MASAK (Financial Crimes Investigation Board), bank transactions, HTS (Historical Traffic Search) and PTS (License Plate Recognition System) records, and communication surveillance measures were examined.
Furthermore, it was stated that in testimonies provided by some suspects seeking to benefit from effective remorse provisions, claims were made that various benefits were requested from contractors doing business with the municipality in exchange for progress payments, money was delivered to certain individuals and officials, irregularities were committed in some purchases made through the direct procurement method, and collusive transactions were carried out in organizations linked to the municipality.
In the statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that it was determined that numerous points mentioned in the testimonies given under effective remorse were supported by HTS and PTS records, bank transactions, MASAK reports, and other material evidence. A simultaneous operation was carried out in Silifke on June 19 as part of the investigation.

During searches conducted at the suspects' residences, vehicles, workplaces, the Silifke Municipality building, and the Silifke Belediyespor Club building, numerous mobile phones, computers, hard drives, and digital materials, documents related to tender and zoning procedures, ready-to-use company stamps, stamped and sealed bid letters and bid envelopes, and a large amount of foreign currency were seized.
8 people, including Mayor Mustafa Turgut, arrested
A total of 19 suspects were processed as part of the investigation. 9 of the suspects were referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for arrest, and 10 were referred with a request for judicial control. As a result of the evaluation made by the court, 8 suspects, including Silifke Mayor Mustafa Turgut, Silifke Belediyespor Club President Sait O., Deputy Mayor Ezgi E. D., Chief of Staff Ersin S., Property Manager Erdoğan G., festival organization contractor Erman F.K., Şerife Y., and Osman Y., were arrested. Judicial control decisions were issued for the other suspects. It was reported that the investigation is continuing in a multi-faceted manner.
