AKP's Tayyar makes statement on Selahattin Demirtaş's release: Points to October 8

AKP's Şamil Tayyar, regarding the claims that former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş would be released, stated, "Demirtaş received a 42-year prison sentence in the Kobani case; he is now a convict and his file is at the Court of Appeal, while the Ministry of Justice has exercised its right to appeal against the ECHR's decision on human rights violations regarding his detention. Therefore, there is no possibility of release at this stage."

The Ankara 22nd High Criminal Court completed the reasoned decision for the sentence it handed down to former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş in the Kobani case after 13 months, and Demirtaş's lawyers prepared a comprehensive 400-page defense against the reasoned decision, which consists of approximately 30 thousand pages.

The deadline for Turkey to appeal the second violation and release decision issued by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding the imprisoned Selahattin Demirtaş expires on October 8.

If Turkey does not appeal, the ECHR decision will become final.

For this reason, while eyes are turned to October 8, Demirtaş's lawyers have made their first release application to the appellate court where the file was sent.

"There are claims that Selahattin Demirtaş will be released on October 8.

Those making the claims say that the Ministry of Justice will not appeal to the ECHR, which issued the human rights violation decision, and that the path to release will be opened.

However, the reality is not so.

I am writing this not as a wish, but as an assessment of the situation.
