Backlash against IMM operations continues: Major protests in AKP strongholds!

Protests that began in support of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and numerous municipal employees, who were detained following the operation launched against the IMM, continue unabated across Turkey.

Today, the public took to the squares once again in many cities, primarily in Ankara, Trabzon, and Ordu.

WIDE PARTICIPATION IN THE CAPITAL ANKARA

The call for the march in Ankara was made by the Left Party (SOL Parti). The protest was also joined by the DEM Party, KESK, TMMOB, DİSK, the Ankara Chamber of Medicine (ATO), the All Retirees Union, Kaldıraç, Alınteri, and the Ankara Contemporary Democratic Accountants Group. During the march in the capital, slogans of "a coup against the people's will" were chanted.

CITIZENS IN THE SQUARES IN TRABZON

In Trabzon, İmamoğlu's hometown, thousands of citizens gathered on Maraş Street at noon to hold a march. The march concluded with a press statement delivered in the city square.

Speaking on behalf of the Trabzon Labor and Democracy Platform, Muhammet İkinci emphasized that the operation against İmamoğlu targets the entire public, stating, "There is hunger, misery, exploitation, and injustice in this country. The people are being intimidated because they want a humane life." The statement also expressed opposition to the constitutional amendment plan: "More than a century has passed since the abolition of the sultanate. History cannot be turned back."

'SHOULDER TO SHOULDER AGAINST FASCISM' SLOGAN IN ORDU

In Ordu, the public gathered in front of 19 Eylül Middle School. Citizens marched while chanting slogans such as "Shoulder to shoulder against fascism" and "The day will come, the tide will turn, the AKP will be held accountable to the people." Thousands of people continued their protests along Sırrıpaşa, Süleyman Felek, and İsmetpaşa streets.

While protests continue in many parts of the country, they are expected to persist in the coming days.
