Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli stated in his message released for the October 29 Republic Day that the Republic is not "merely a change in the form of government," but the registration of the Turkish nation's will to exist in the modern era.
In his message, Bahçeli made assessments regarding the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the National Struggle, and the founding of the Republic. Emphasizing that the Republic carries the meaning of a "struggle for independence and future" for the Turkish nation, Bahçeli stated that the struggle for independence concluded with a modern form of government.
Noting that Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk advocated for full independence against the concept of mandates and protectorates, Bahçeli stated that the motto "either independence or death" represented the true will for liberation. Bahçeli expressed that the process extending from Samsun to Amasya, from Erzurum to Sivas, and to the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in Ankara was completed with the proclamation of the Republic.
I have no doubt that we will reach a stronger Turkey all together. Let us work together to overcome the obstacles before us and open new horizons, and let us strive to create an independent and strong leader country in the global balance of power.
Reminding that Atatürk entrusted the future of the Republic to the youth, Bahçeli said that the Turkish youth are aware of this responsibility. He called on the youth to carry the Republic into the future with a productive and innovative approach "in the light of contemporary education and science."
Concluding his message by celebrating the October 29 Republic Day of the Turkish nation and its citizens, Bahçeli wished mercy for Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades-in-arms, and the martyrs. Bahçeli used the expressions, "May our unity be eternal, may our state be everlasting."
