Border crossings to Greece disrupted due to customs officers' strike

A work stoppage by customs officers in Greece has brought border crossings from Edirne to a standstill. It was reported that entries and exits at the İpsala and Pazarkule border gates were disrupted during the morning hours.

It was stated that customs employees held a four-hour work stoppage across the country on Monday, July 27, between 07:30 and 11:30, citing heavy workloads and unpaid overtime.

The Ministry of Trade also issued a warning to citizens planning to travel to Greece and to drivers engaged in commercial transport. The ministry's statement noted that information had been received regarding a planned strike by employees at the Kipi and Kastanies customs gates.

According to the statement, only trucks carrying sensitive goods and passenger vehicles carrying sick or elderly passengers will be allowed to pass during the strike. Drivers and travelers were advised to plan their trips accordingly.

It was learned that some travelers who arrived at İpsala and Pazarkule without prior knowledge of the strike were redirected to the Kapıkule Border Gate, which opens from Edirne to Bulgaria.
