Bosphorus reopens to vessel traffic

The Liberia-flagged cargo ship 'Alexis', which was en route from Ukraine to Egypt, ran aground off the Haydarpaşa Breakwater this morning due to a mechanical failure.

Tugboats Kurtarma-6, Kurtarma-8, and Kurtarma-18, along with rapid rescue boats KEGM-4 and KEGM-6, belonging to the General Directorate of Coastal Safety of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, successfully refloated the grounded vessel.

With the ship being pulled to open water, vessel traffic in the Bosphorus has resumed in both directions.

'TOWED TO AHIRKAPI'

In a written statement regarding the incident, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure stated, "Bosphorus vessel traffic has been reopened in the south-north direction following the towing of the 'Alexis' vessel, which had run aground off the Haydarpaşa Breakwater, to Ahırkapı."
