STATEMENT FROM ÖZDAĞ AFTER THE HEARING
Speaking after the hearing, Özdağ said the following:
"The insult case against me was initially opened ex officio. We have reached today's point. The prosecutor is requesting my punishment in the opinion they submitted. They are insisting on the allegation of insult. My lawyers and I have requested time for a written defense. We will present the precedent decisions one by one."

Criticizing the legal process, Özdağ described the period as one in which politics is being reshaped through "enemy criminal law":
"This is not a legal process; it is a process in which politics is being restructured and political parties are being pressured through enemy criminal law. He is free and at liberty to say anything, free to make the harshest accusations, but it is considered forbidden for the opposition to criticize him. This is not democracy."
