Change in school hours for the first day of classes
The Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education has announced that classes in all public and private primary, middle, and high schools will be held between 10:00 and 15:00 on Monday, September 14.
In a statement issued by the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education, it was recalled that the 2026-2027 academic year will begin on Monday, September 14.
The statement noted that 2 million 800 thousand students, 161 thousand 453 teachers, and approximately 19 thousand school buses will be on the roads on the first day of the new term across the city. It was stated that an important regulation has been implemented to prevent potential traffic congestion and disruptions in transportation that could arise as parents also take their children to school by car.
The statement included the following: "In this context, it has been decided that the first day of classes in all public and private primary, middle, and high schools in Istanbul on Monday, September 14, 2026, will be held between 10:00 and 15:00. With this decision, the aim is to ensure that both students and teachers can reach their schools safely and that city traffic flows in an orderly and controlled manner."
