Time deposit accounts have once again come to the fore for savers looking to protect their savings against inflation. According to the current rates offered by banks for a principal of 1 million TL and a 32-day maturity, a significant difference has emerged between net returns.

In the calculations, the highest net earnings were seen at Hayat Finans with 29,437 TL, while Türk Ticaret Bankası ranked second with 29,088 TL. At the lower end of the list, a net return of 21,179 TL was calculated for Ziraat Katılım and 21,816 TL for Ziraat Dinamik.

GROSS RATE ALONE IS NOT ENOUGH
The gross interest or profit share rate announced for time deposits does not solely show the net amount the saver will receive at the end of the maturity period. Withholding tax, product conditions, lower limits where interest does not accrue in daily accounts, and campaign details can change the final earnings.

For this reason, when making an investment choice, one should look not only at the percentage rate but also at the net earnings that will be credited to the account at the end of the maturity. In some products, rates that appear high can turn into lower net returns due to mandatory demand deposit balances or different practices.

DIGITAL CHANNEL ADVANTAGE STANDS OUT
Campaigns offered by banks for time deposit accounts opened through mobile and internet banking channels can also affect returns. For this reason, different rates can be encountered for accounts opened at the same bank via a branch, mobile application, or internet banking.

Experts point out that before opening a deposit account, current rates, maturity conditions, withholding tax application, and campaign terms should be examined together. Rates and net returns can change according to the current practices of the banks.
