New details have emerged in an insurance fraud operation conducted in 7 provinces centered in Adana. It is alleged that the suspects, by colluding with vehicle owners, staged accidents using "hired drivers" and caused insurance companies a loss of approximately 25 million TL.
As part of the investigation launched in 2022 by the Fraud Bureau of the Adana Police Department's Public Security Branch, the network's methods were examined through technical and physical surveillance. During the approximately 4-year follow-up, it was determined that 98 different vehicles were used in 77 accidents.
According to information reflected in the investigation file, it was determined that one car was used in 7 different staged accidents. Furthermore, it was alleged that one vehicle was shown as having been sold to 5 different people, and mandatory traffic insurance was taken out from different insurance companies each time.
It was reported that the suspects conducted reconnaissance on the streets before the accidents, attempting to identify spots not covered by security cameras. Despite this, it was noted that some incidents were captured on camera.
According to the allegations, the vehicles for which reports were filed after the accidents were taken to colluding auto body shops. It is claimed that the vehicles were shown as repaired through colluding adjusters, and the money received from insurance companies was shared among the network members.
The Adana-centered operation was also carried out in Kayseri, Kahramanmaraş, Konya, Çankırı, Kastamonu, and Kocaeli. Following the operation, 58 suspects were arrested, and judicial control measures were imposed on 28 suspects.
It was reported that those arrested included insurance agency owners and employees, adjusters, auto body shop workers, hired drivers, and vehicle owners.
