The reception of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Palace has reignited claims that have been on the agenda for some time regarding his potential move to the AKP.

HE LEFT THE CHP AND CONTINUED AS AN INDEPENDENT

Cemil Tugay announced on June 18 that he had resigned from the Republican People's Party (CHP) and stated that he would continue his duties as mayor as an independent.

Following his resignation, claims emerged that Tugay would join the AK Party, but Tugay denied these allegations, stating, "I have no situation regarding joining a party at the moment." It was also reported that Tugay had stated in his previous remarks that he would continue his duties as an independent.

MEETING WITH ERDOĞAN DREW ATTENTION

Tugay's reception by President Erdoğan at the Palace on September 30 brought the party change allegations back to the agenda. The details of the closed-door meeting were not shared with the public.

Following the meeting, TGRT Haber Ankara Representative Fatih Atik shared insider information during a live broadcast regarding Tugay's move to the AKP.

ATİK'S AKP CLAIM

Fatih Atik claimed that it has been discussed behind the scenes for a long time that Tugay wants to join the AKP. Atik alleged that Tugay has been making attempts to join the AK Party for about a year and a half.

Stating that he had previously received information that a private meeting had taken place between Tugay and Erdoğan, Atik expressed that he could not verify the information at that time.

Following the latest meeting, Atik assessed that "He is moving to the AK Party."

INSIDER CLAIMS FOR THREE MAYORS AS WELL

In the continuation of his statement, Fatih Atik claimed that the mayors of Tire, Beydağ, and Bergama are also expected to join the AKP at an induction ceremony to be held together with Tugay.

Atik also stated that there is insider information that the mayors of Karabağlar and Konak will also join the AKP.

THE LAST WEEK OF OCTOBER POINTED OUT

Journalist Mustafa Yavuz also provided a date regarding the insider claim that Tugay would join the AKP.

Yavuz used the expressions, "The information I received is that it will probably be the last week of October, I mean I don't know exactly how the program will be, but Mr. Cemil will join the AK Party. The President will also pin badges on both Mr. Cemil and other mayors there during a program in İzmir."

TUGAY EXPLAINED THE CONTENT OF THE MEETING

In a statement he made after his meeting with Erdoğan, Cemil Tugay stated that the issues on İzmir's agenda and projects for the city's future were discussed at the meeting.

Tugay used the following expressions in his statement:

"Today, we were received by our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at the Presidential Complex.
