Downpour hits Istanbul, Bursa, and Ankara: Roads collapse, homes flooded

Heavy rainfall in Istanbul, Bursa, and Ankara has negatively impacted daily life. In Istanbul, some roads were submerged and a road collapsed in Fatih, while a building was evacuated as a precaution in Eyüpsultan due to a landslide. In Ankara, sewage water flooded the ground floors of some apartment buildings.

CITIZENS IN TAKSIM CAUGHT UNPREPARED FOR THE RAIN

The downpour, which intensified in the evening in Beyoğlu Taksim, caught citizens unprepared. Those trying to protect themselves from the rain took shelter under bus stops and awnings, while some citizens protected their heads with plastic bags.

MECIDIYEKÖY UNDERPASS FILLED WITH WATER

The Zincirlikuyu underpass was flooded due to the downpour. Police and fire department teams launched operations in the area where vehicles were having difficulty moving.

Police teams closed the underpass to traffic while fire department teams drained the accumulated water.

ROAD COLLAPSED IN FATIH, TWO VEHICLES FELL INTO THE PIT

A road collapse occurred in Fatih Zeyrek around 22:00 due to the downpour. A truck and a car that did not notice the resulting pit fell into it.

While the vehicles were removed with the help of teams and citizens in the area, the perimeter of the pit was cordoned off by municipal police teams for safety purposes.

LANDSLIDE IN EYÜPSULTAN

Police and fire department teams were dispatched to the area after a landslide occurred due to soil softening following the downpour on Sayfiye Street in Eyüpsultan's Merkez Neighborhood around 01:00.

While police teams took security measures in the area, 25 people in the apartment building located under the sliding soil were evacuated as a precaution. Work in the area is expected to continue in the morning hours.

SOME ROADS TURNED INTO LAKES

Heavy water accumulation occurred on Eyüpsultan İslambey Street and Küçükçekmece Kanarya Neighborhood İstasyon Street. Drivers had difficulty moving due to overflowing manholes in Küçükçekmece.

On the Anatolian side, some roads around Çengelköy and Küçüksu were covered with water due to the downpour.

In a cafe in Beykoz, rainwater that accumulated on the awning leaked into the business.

In Bayrampaşa Terazidere Manastır Street, the movement of vehicles became difficult due to water puddles.

MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT IN BURSA

A motorcycle overturned on a road that became slippery due to the rain in the Santral Garaj Neighborhood of Bursa's Osmangazi district.

Police and medical teams were dispatched to the area upon notification. The injured driver was treated at the scene, and it was learned that their health condition is good.

SEWAGE WATER FLOODED APARTMENTS IN ANKARA

The downpour, which intensified at midnight in Ankara, caused flooding on Gülgün Street in the Çiçekli Neighborhood of the Keçiören district. As a result of the overflow of sewage water, dirty water flooded the ground floors of some apartment buildings.

Neighborhood residents tried to drain the water that filled their homes with their own means.

Burak Adaçoğlu, one of the local residents, stated that infrastructure problems such as flooding and road collapses had occurred on the street before, and that the manholes filled up again when the rain intensified after ASKİ teams drained the water. Adaçoğlu said he had to clean the water in his house throughout the night and demanded that the infrastructure problems be solved.
