The National Security Council (MGK) convened on September 30, 2026, under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The declaration issued following the meeting delivered important messages on a wide range of topics, from counter-terrorism to developments in Syria and Iraq, and from the war in Iran to the Russia-Ukraine War and rising tensions in Yemen.
MESSAGE OF A 'TERROR-FREE TURKEY'
The MGK evaluated activities conducted both domestically and abroad against threats to Turkey's national unity, solidarity, and survival, particularly those posed by the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETÖ, and DAESH.
The declaration stated that the steps taken and the progress made toward the goals of a "Terror-Free Turkey" and a "Terror-Free Region" were discussed. It was expressed that Turkey will continue its efforts for the peace and prosperity of the region, as well as for its own security, with determination.
SYRIA INTEGRATION PROCESS DISCUSSED
Developments regarding the strengthening of Syria's unity and territorial integrity, as well as the establishment of state authority throughout the country, were also evaluated during the meeting.
It was noted that Turkey's support for the Syrian people in rebuilding their country and strengthening their relations with the international community will continue.
EMPHASIS ON IRAQ'S STABILITY
The MGK declaration stated that the peace and stability of Iraq are of critical importance for the entire region.
While expressing satisfaction with the Iraqi government's efforts to strengthen state sovereignty across the country, Turkey's will to develop strategic cooperation with Iraq was reaffirmed.
CALL FOR NEGOTIATIONS REGARDING THE IRAN WAR
The war between the US and Israel and Iran was also addressed by the Council.
The declaration stated that the conflicts are turning into a vicious cycle, increasing vulnerabilities in the region. A call was made for the parties to return to the negotiating table and end the conflict, which is having increasingly severe global consequences.
CRITICISM OF ISRAEL REGARDING GAZA, LEBANON, AND SYRIA
The MGK stated that the Israeli administration has not fulfilled its commitments regarding the establishment of peace in Gaza and Lebanon and continues its attacks.
The international community was called upon to take concrete steps against the Israeli administration, which is stated to be violating the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria.
CEASEFIRE CALL IN RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR
The latest situation in the Russia-Ukraine War was also among the agenda items of the meeting.
While drawing attention to the regional and global effects of attacks on civilian infrastructure and navigation routes, a call for restraint and a ceasefire was made to the parties against the risk of the conflict escalating and spreading uncontrollably.
ATTENTION DRAWN TO TENSIONS IN YEMEN
The MGK declaration stated that the recent rise in tensions in Yemen has increased regional security risks, particularly for neighboring countries.
It was emphasized that calm must be restored rapidly to maintain stability both in the region and on a global scale.
An 8-point declaration was issued following the meeting.
The points of the declaration are as follows:
"At the meeting;
1. The Council was briefed on the activities carried out with perseverance, determination, and success both domestically and abroad against all kinds of threats and dangers to our national unity, solidarity, and survival, particularly the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETÖ, and DAESH terrorist organizations, as well as recent international developments.
2. The steps taken and the progress made toward the goals of a Terror-Free Turkey and a Terror-Free Region were evaluated; it was expressed that the efforts exerted for the security of our country and nation, as well as the peace and prosperity of our region and neighbors, will be continued with determination.
3. Positive developments regarding the consolidation of Syria's unity and integrity, the extension of state authority across the country, and the integration process were discussed; it was noted that our support for the Syrian people in rebuilding their country and strengthening their ties with the international community will continue.
4. It was emphasized that the peace and stability of Iraq are of critical importance for the entire region; satisfaction was expressed regarding the Iraqi Government's efforts to strengthen state sovereignty throughout the country, and our will to advance strategic cooperation with Iraq was reaffirmed.
5. It was stated that the war between the US and Israel and Iran is evolving into a vicious cycle with ongoing conflicts, triggering vulnerabilities in the region; a call was made to the parties to return to negotiations and end the conflict, which has increasingly severe global consequences.
6. It was pointed out that the Israeli Administration continues its attacks by failing to fulfill its commitments and obligations regarding the establishment of peace in Gaza and Lebanon; the international community was invited to take concrete steps against the Israeli Administration, which is also attempting to hinder the establishment of stability in the region by violating the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria.
7. The current situation in the Russia-Ukraine War and the regional and global effects of attacks concentrated on civilian infrastructure and navigation routes were discussed; in the face of observed signs of uncontrolled escalation and spread, a call for restraint and a ceasefire was made to the parties.
8. It was emphasized that the recent escalation of tension in Yemen has increased security risks in the region, particularly for neighboring countries, and it was underlined that calm, which is also important for global stability, must be ensured immediately."
