Eyüpspor President arrested

Nineteen suspects detained in an operation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office as part of an investigation known publicly as "referees' membership in betting sites" have been referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for their arrest.

Following technical and physical surveillance conducted by the Istanbul Police Department's Cyber Crimes Branch under the coordination of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspects, who were apprehended in simultaneous operations centered in Istanbul and spanning Ankara, Şanlıurfa, Kütahya, Manisa, İzmir, Trabzon, Diyarbakır, Bolu, Edirne, Malatya, Antalya, and Kırklareli, have completed their statements at the prosecutor's office. The 19 detained suspects were referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest.

8 PEOPLE, INCLUDING EYÜPSPOR PRESIDENT MURAT ÖZKAYA, ARRESTED

Within the scope of the betting investigation, 8 people, including Eyüpspor President Murat Özkaya and three referees—Erkan Arslan, Nevzat Okat, and Yakup Yapıcı—were arrested. 11 people were released under judicial control conditions.

The PFDK has lifted the administrative precautionary decision regarding referee Zorbay Küçük.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Following technical and physical surveillance conducted by the Istanbul Police Department's Cyber Crimes Branch under the coordination of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, simultaneous operations were carried out in Istanbul and across Ankara, Şanlıurfa, Kütahya, Manisa, İzmir, Trabzon, Diyarbakır, Bolu, Edirne, Malatya, Antalya, and Kırklareli after detention warrants were issued for 21 suspects.

Eighteen suspects, including Eyüpspor President Murat Özkaya and former Kasımpaşa Spor Faaliyetleri AŞ President Fatih Saraç, who were detained in the operation, were taken to the police station for processing.

Following their procedures at the police station, Fatih Saraç was released, while a referee who could not be found at his address during the initial efforts was also apprehended as the investigation continued.
