Forest fire in Tekirdağ threatens residential areas: High alert declared

The fire, which started in the rural area of İstiklal Neighborhood, grew rapidly and spread to agricultural lands as well as forested areas. The fire is being intervened in intensively from both the air and the ground with planes, helicopters, numerous water tenders, construction equipment, and fire trucks.

While firefighting teams are putting up a major struggle to cut off the path of the flames around the Kaytandere and Şenköy neighborhoods, the latter has been evacuated due to flames spreading to some houses in Şenköy. A state of high alert has been declared for other surrounding rural settlements.

Visibility has decreased due to the smoke in the region, and citizens are trying to move their livestock to safe areas. It has been learned that some vineyards and olive groves have been damaged in the areas where the fire is active.

In a statement made by the Tekirdağ Governorship, it was said, "Intervention efforts are being carried out with a sufficient number of air/ground vehicles, equipment, and personnel regarding the fire that started in the İstiklal Neighborhood of our Şarköy district and spread due to the effect of the wind. Our citizens are requested to follow the warnings of our officials and not to approach the fire zone."

Efforts by the teams to bring the flames under control are continuing without interruption.
