Name search for baby gorilla: 4 names stand out

As a result of the careful monitoring by teams from the Ministry of Trade's Customs Enforcement, Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate, the baby gorilla seized at Istanbul Airport on December 22 has been placed under protection.

The gorilla, which was hidden inside a crate-type cargo intended to be sent from Nigeria to Bangkok, has been taken into rehabilitation by teams from the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks.

REHABILITATION CONTINUES

It has been announced that the rehabilitation process for the endangered baby gorilla is continuing at a zoo in Istanbul and that its health is improving.

Ministry officials stated that the baby gorilla is being kept under regular observation.

NAME SUGGESTIONS POURED IN

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry launched a naming campaign for the baby gorilla on social media.

While thousands of people participated in the campaign, the Ministry of Trade suggested the name "KİM" (an acronym for the Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate), while the Ministry of Family and Social Services suggested the name "Umut" (Hope) following a child's suggestion.

FINALISTS DETERMINED

Following high participation, the four most suggested names were determined: Üzüm (Grape), Kömür (Coal), Misket (Marble), and Zeytin (Olive). The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry launched the voting on its social media account, stating, "We thank you for the thousands of name suggestions. Now it is time to choose!"

RESULT AWAITED WITH CURIOSITY

The name to be chosen for the baby gorilla will be announced shortly. The process, which is being followed with interest by the public, has increased interest in both the story of the protected baby gorilla and the naming campaign.
