Governor's Office statement on allegations of 'surgeries performed by unauthorized persons': 'Suspended from duty'

In the statement by the Bilecik Governor's Office, it was noted that allegations appeared in some media outlets today that "surgeries were performed by unauthorized persons in the neurosurgery department at Bozüyük State Hospital".

'SUSPENDED FROM DUTY'

The statement included the following:

"Regarding the allegations in the news, an examination and investigation were initiated by the hospital administration 1 month ago under the instructions of the Bilecik Governor's Office, and an application was made to the Public Prosecutor's Office. Investigations are being conducted by Ministry inspectors with the examination and investigation numbered 2023-01-0337 dated September 20, 2023, by the Ministry of Health Inspection Board.

Within the scope of the investigation; the neurosurgeon mentioned in the news at Bozüyük State Hospital has been suspended from duty as of October 4, 2023, in accordance with articles 137 and 138 of the Civil Servants Law No. 657, with the approval of the Bilecik Governor's Office dated October 5, 2023, and numbered 226111015. The matter is being followed meticulously by our Governor's Office."

WHAT HAPPENED?

It was documented that Sezer Zehir, who has been a neurosurgeon at Bozüyük State Hospital in Bilecik for approximately 8 years, allowed a hospital cleaning staff member and employees of a medical firm to enter surgeries and perform surgical procedures.

According to information obtained by İsmail Arı from BirGün, Sezer Zehir was repeatedly reported to the Provincial Health Directorate for performing surgeries on patients who did not need them, allowing individuals who were not healthcare personnel to participate in surgeries, and engaging in various acts of corruption.
