Her COP31 remarks had made headlines: Semra Dinçer’s vote in Parliament revealed

CHP Deputy Chair and Ankara MP Semra Dinçer brought Turkey's climate policies to the agenda during her speech at the TBMM General Assembly.

Speaking ahead of the COP31 Climate Summit, which is planned to be held in Antalya in November, Dinçer argued that Turkey is not pursuing a sincere policy in the fight against climate change.

Stating that the organizations to be held within the scope of COP31 would not be able to overshadow the criticisms regarding Turkey's environmental policies, Dinçer used the following expressions:

"Magnificent organizations like COP31 and red carpets are not enough to cover up the forests massacred in Akbelen, the olive groves destroyed in the Aegean, the 9 lives we lost in İliç, and the streams dried up by hydroelectric power plants (HES)."

COP31 AGREEMENT ACCEPTED IN TBMM

The agreement foreseeing Turkey's hosting of the COP31 Climate Summit was accepted in the TBMM General Assembly.

As the process regarding Turkey's hosting of the summit was brought to the Parliament's agenda, the TBMM minutes regarding the vote held during the deliberations were also reflected to the public.

“IN FAVOR” VOTE IN THE MINUTES

According to the voting record in the TBMM minutes, CHP Ankara MP Semra Dinçer cast an "IN FAVOR" vote in the vote regarding the agreement for Turkey to host COP31.

Dinçer's criticism of the government's environmental policies in her speech at the General Assembly before COP31, followed by her "IN FAVOR" vote on the agreement in question, has come to the agenda along with the information contained in the minutes.

WHAT HAD DINÇER SAID?

In her speech, Dinçer had stated that COP31 should not be evaluated only as an international organization for Turkey.

Listing her criticisms regarding environmental policies through the forest clearings in Akbelen, the olive groves in the Aegean, the mining disaster that occurred in İliç, and the streams she stated were damaged due to hydroelectric power plants, Dinçer had argued that the climate struggle should be carried out with concrete policies.
