MHP responds to call for 'Atalay meeting' in Parliament, calling it an 'agenda occupation'

MHP responds to call for 'Atalay meeting' in Parliament, calling it an 'agenda occupation'

The Constitutional Court (AYM) ruled that the stripping of the parliamentary status of Can Atalay, the elected Hatay deputy for the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP), following a Court of Cassation decision, is 'null and void'.

The CHP, TİP, Saadet Party, Future Party, DEVA Party, Democrat Party, and EMEP submitted a joint petition requesting that the Turkish Grand National Assembly be called for an extraordinary session on August 16 regarding the Can Atalay ruling.

Although the Speaker of the Parliament has not yet made a decision regarding the request, the first statement from the ruling front has arrived.

Semih Yalçın, Deputy Chairman of the MHP, a partner in the People's Alliance, declared on his X account that they would not participate if the Parliament is called for an extraordinary session.

Claiming that Atalay is a traitor, Yalçın once again attacked the CHP with harsh words. Yalçın's post is as follows:

MHP WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE EXTRAORDINARY MEETING CALL...

As is known, the Turkish Grand National Assembly has been called for an extraordinary session by the CHP on August 16 at 14:00 to discuss the decision made by the Constitutional Court regarding Can Atalay.

Our party's view on the Constitutional Court decisions, which we see as a national security issue, has always been clear and explicit; the decisions rendered have been viewed as a black stain on the Turkish legal system. The Constitutional Court continues to exceed its jurisdiction and wag its finger at the Parliament and other high courts. In our opinion, a court that rules in favor of a terrorist's rights violation cannot be the court of the Turkish nation, and this cannot be called justice.

Moreover, while Turkey has so many important issues, and while both the Russia-Ukraine conflict and Israel's vile attacks on both Palestinians and regional countries continue, keeping the entire Middle East and even the world on edge, occupying Turkey's agenda with the situation of a traitor like Can Atalay is extraordinarily absurd and wrong.

The CHP is trying to stir up a storm in a teacup. Like an empty tin that makes a lot of noise, the CHP has made it a political method to engage in futile tasks and stir up conflict. The CHP dares to use the Grand National Assembly of Turkey as a tool for its political ambitions and causes our country to lose time by drowning public opinion in noise.

Furthermore, an extraordinary meeting invitation for a person who voluntarily serves terrorism does not befit the dignity of our supreme parliament.

As the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), we will not fall for the political maneuvering of the 'DEM-infused' CHP.

Although the Office of the Speaker of the Parliament

has not yet responded to the meeting call, as the Nationalist Movement Party, we will not give credence to this purposeful and ill-intentioned extraordinary meeting call, and we will not attend the meeting with our 50 deputies.
