Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat has filed a criminal complaint against journalists Murat Ağırel and İsmail Saymaz due to allegations raised against him in connection with a fund investigation involving seven investment institutions.
During a program broadcast on Sözcü TV, Murat Ağırel, who was evaluating the fund investigations ongoing since September 16, had claimed that Bolat also had money in these funds. Following the circulation of these allegations on television and social media, Bolat issued a written statement.
In his statement, Bolat denied the allegations, asserting that he has no need to hide his assets, sources of income, or savings. He stated that the amount presented to the public as "money in the fund" was actually a legal lease certificate known as "sukuk."
Minister Bolat also emphasized that his investments did not include any stocks traded on the stock exchange. Stating, "No savings account has been closed either before or after September 16, 2026. The expression 'he put in 400, took out 800' is a massive lie," Bolat announced that legal proceedings had been initiated.
Following Bolat's statement, Murat Ağırel shared a post on his social media account, stating, "I did not utter a figure like 'he put in 400, took out 800.' I told my colleague on the broadcast that I did not know the answer to their question regarding the figure. I also clearly stated that what was being discussed were allegations."
As the debate over the investigation and the allegations continues, the process is expected to be evaluated by judicial authorities following Bolat's criminal complaint.
