YENİ Party Chairman Özgür Özel made evaluations regarding former Minister of Family and Social Services Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, who was arrested as part of a fund investigation. Speaking to Saygı Öztürk from the Sözcü newspaper, Özel said that public reaction was influential in the process leading to Kaya's arrest.
Arguing that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan could not prevent Kaya's arrest due to public outcry, Özel stated, "He finally had to sacrifice Fatma Betül Sayan."
Özel also stated that they want to visit Kaya in prison and that commission members will be assigned for this purpose.

Evaluating the process regarding the fund investigation, Özgür Özel claimed that the government was reluctant to take action against Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya at the beginning of the investigation.
Arguing that the arrest decision was made after public reactions increased, Özel made the following statements regarding the issue:
"Society showed an incredible reflex. All politicians going to the field see the magnitude of the reaction. That is why [they thought], 'How can you not arrest her when there is such an obvious case, while you arrest others for minor allegations?' He finally had to sacrifice Fatma Betül Sayan. He finally had to sacrifice Fatma Betül Sayan. One side of the matter is already with him because he appointed all those who committed this crime, but it was also emerging that he was protecting the person who profited from the crime. They could not sustain this any longer. They arrested her as a last resort."
Özel stated that the investigation should not be limited only to the names arrested, and that the appointments through which the individuals mentioned in the file were involved in the process should also be investigated.
Reminding that Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek mentioned an organization and a connected structure in his statements, Özel expressed that the political responsibility in the investigation should also be clarified following Kaya's arrest.

Continuing his evaluations regarding the scope of the investigation and its political connections, Özgür Özel said that it should be revealed who is managing the structure.
In his statement on the subject, Özel said:
"There is a cabinet member or an AK Party Deputy Chairman in this organization. Who is the head of this organization, who are the others? That is why this issue is truly important; this organization must be exposed, but will the person who appointed this entire organizational chart not take responsibility?"
"WE WANT TO VISIT KAYA"
Özgür Özel stated that they conduct visits to individuals who are under arrest and announced that they also want to see Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya in prison.
Stating that the visit depends on both obtaining the necessary permissions and Kaya's acceptance, Özel conveyed that they have met with many people arrested due to the fund investigation and that these meetings are continuing.
Noting that if Kaya thinks she cannot make statements on certain issues, they could share the information she conveys with the public, Özel said:
"We go to visit everyone who is arrested. We would like to visit Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya as well, provided that permission is granted and she accepts it. Currently, our colleagues have met with many people arrested in this fund matter, and they continue to meet. I imagine we haven't evaluated this issue with the commission members regarding Ms. Fatma yet, but we will assign them. Under normal circumstances, the presumption of innocence is very important, and we always remind people of this. If Ms. Fatma thinks she cannot say certain things, if she says them, we will share them transparently."
