Statement from the Batman Governor's Office regarding the cemetery attack that killed an AKP official

In Batman, 3 people from the same family lost their lives and 2 people were injured in an armed attack that took place during a cemetery visit. Among those who lost their lives was AKP Batman Central District Board Member Mehmet Direk.

STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

The Batman Governor's Office issued a statement regarding the armed attack that occurred on July 26 at the Asri Cemetery in the Çamlıca neighborhood.

The statement noted that 3 people lost their lives and 2 people were injured in the attack.

FEUD ALLEGATION

In the statement from the Governor's Office, it was expressed that according to initial assessments, it is understood that the attack stemmed from an ongoing feud following an incident on May 16 in Batman, which was believed to have broken out over a dispute involving a girl and resulted in the death of 1 person.

The statement also noted that within the scope of the investigation conducted into the aforementioned incident, the perpetrator had previously been captured and arrested, and the judicial process is ongoing.

2 SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY

The statement, which indicated that security forces intervened at the scene following the attack, reported that 2 suspects considered to be connected to the incident were captured and taken into custody.

While it was stated that a wide-ranging judicial investigation has been initiated under the coordination of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was conveyed that judicial proceedings regarding the wounded suspects are continuing, and efforts to identify and capture other suspects believed to be connected to the incident are ongoing.

The Governor's Office reported that the investigation is being conducted meticulously in order to clarify all aspects of the incident and to identify and bring to justice any other responsible parties, if any.
