Who is İrfan Alış? Why did the lead singer of the band Peyk pass away?

The band Peyk, whose foundations were laid by İrfan Alış and Serdal Ersoy at the Istanbul University campus in 1991, began to take shape in 1995 with the participation of Ertan Çalışkan and Özgür Ulusoy. With the addition of Barış Tokgöz to the group in 2006, the band reached its final form. Thus, the legendary Peyk emerged with melodies incorporating elements of rock, blues, reggae, and occasionally arabesque!

Musician İrfan Alış is known as the lead singer of the band Peyk, which was founded in 1991. Alış and Peyk recently appeared on the theater stage with a musical project titled "Hamiyet." In this musical, the story of a woman whose life was turned upside down following the 1980 military coup was brought to the stage, accompanied by Alış's compositions.

Furthermore, Alış stood out as a figure who encouraged collaboration among musicians and independent music production by participating in solidarity-focused projects such as "Olta."

Alış, who frequently voiced the difficulties faced by musicians during the pandemic and issues related to copyright, was also known as a rights advocate.

WHY DID PEYK VOCALIST İRFAN ALIŞ DIE?

According to a statement made to our reporter by band member Özgür Ulusoy, İrfan Alış suffered a blood clot in his brain. It was determined that there was a serious blockage in the vessels leading to the brain of Alış, who was taken to Dokuz Eylül University Hospital. Despite all interventions at the hospital, the talented artist could not be resuscitated. İrfan Alış passed away on November 5, 2024, at 06:27 AM, at the age of 53. 

Stating, "Everything happened so suddenly. We have been by his side since we received the news yesterday. I am very sad," Özgür Ulusoy also announced that Alış's funeral would be held at Piyadepaşa Cemetery on Thursday.
