Will aid be requested from the IMF after the election? Statement from the DMM

The Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation has announced that the claims that "support was requested from the US to hold talks with the IMF after the election" are not true.

The statement issued by the Center for Combating Disinformation included the following remarks:

"The claims shared by some media outlets and social media accounts that 'support was requested from the US to hold talks with the IMF after the election' are not true. Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek held a bilateral meeting with US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen within the scope of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting held in Brazil, where regional and global economic developments were discussed. No topic related to the IMF was discussed during the meeting. In his bilateral meetings, Minister Şimşek exchanged views on issues that would strengthen relations and cooperation with multilateral development banks and countries."

WHAT HAPPENED?

At the G20 meeting held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen met with Minister Şimşek and Central Bank Governor Karahan.

In her statement, Yellen said, "I met with Minister Mehmet Şimşek. I also emphasized the importance of our bilateral relations," while the US Treasury Department stated, "The meeting discussed the ongoing development of Turkish economic policy, including the mission to combat inflation."

Following these statements, Babuşcu used the words, "Was support requested from the US to hold talks with the IMF after the election?"
