Breaking News... TÜİK announces: August inflation figures released

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released the inflation data for August 2026. Accordingly, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 1.84 percent in August compared to the previous month. Annual inflation was 31.51 percent.

The released data was closely monitored by economic circles following the 1.78 percent monthly increase recorded in July. It was observed that the annual inflation rate, which was 31.75 percent in July, declined to 31.51 percent with the August data.

The Inflation Research Group (ENAG) also shared its E-CPI data for August. According to ENAG, consumer prices increased by 2.24 percent monthly in August, while annual inflation was calculated at 49.03 percent.

WHAT WERE THE EXPECTATIONS?

Economists participating in the AA Finance Inflation Expectation Survey had predicted that the CPI would increase by 1.86 percent in August. The annual inflation expectation in the survey was at the 31.52 percent level. The monthly and annual rates announced by TÜİK were quite close to market expectations.

According to data from the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO), retail prices in Istanbul rose by 1.66 percent monthly in July, while the annual increase was 34.96 percent.
