Real effective exchange rate index declined in August
The real value of the Turkish lira showed a decline in August in both CPI and PPI-based indices.
A decline was recorded in the real effective exchange rate index in Turkey in August. According to data announced by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB), the CPI-based real effective exchange rate index, calculated with a 2025 base year, decreased by 1.07 points compared to the previous month, falling to 105.04. In July, this index was announced as 106.11.
During the same period, the real effective exchange rate calculated based on the Domestic Producer Price Index (Yİ-ÜFE) also fell by 0.26 points to reach 101.35. When compared to August of last year, it was observed that the Turkish lira gained 7.77 points in value on a CPI basis and 2.38 points on a PPI basis.
The following statements were included in the assessment published by the TCMB:
"When the components affecting the CPI-based REER index are examined, the dollar gained an average of 1.68 percent and the euro gained an average of 3.20 percent against the Turkish lira compared to the previous month. The CPI increased by 1.84 percent and the PPI increased by 2.57 percent compared to the previous month."
