Türkiye Gazetesi columnist and Social Security Chief Inspector İsa Karakaş made assessments regarding pension salaries and the minimum wage hike during a live broadcast on TGRT Haber. While stating that an improvement is expected for retirees, Karakaş shared a calculation based on a flat-rate increase for the lowest pension salary.

Responding to questions from Yaprak Hırka Yıldız and Pınar Ergüner, Karakaş said that regulations for retirees, minimum wage earners, civil servants, and low-income groups could come to the agenda for 2027. Arguing that these groups have not received a welfare share in the last three years, Karakaş expressed his view that improvements will be made in the new period.
KARAKAŞ'S 50,000 TL CALCULATION
Pointing to the possibility of a welfare share being granted in January, Karakaş recalled the raise processes in previous years. Stating that raise rates in 2023 were first increased to 25 percent and then to 30 percent, Karakaş assessed that a similar template could be applied again.
The notable calculation for the lowest pension salary came via a flat-rate raise. Karakaş stated that if an increase of 25,153 TL were made as of today, no pension salary would remain below 50,000 TL. Arguing that this level is not high, Karakaş said that when the October hunger threshold is announced, it will be seen that kitchen expenses alone are around 40,000 lira.

Karakaş also shared his expectations regarding the minimum wage. Stating that he does not expect an update below 30 percent in January 2027, Karakaş said that the current minimum wage has fallen behind the hunger threshold. Karakaş's statements came at a time when discussions on new-period raises for pension salaries and the minimum wage have intensified.
