The cost of dating in European cities is becoming increasingly visible relative to income levels. According to a study by the Deutsche Bank Research Institute, Istanbul has become one of the cities where a "budget-friendly" date creates the highest cost relative to net salary.
ATHENS AND ISTANBUL AT THE TOP OF THE LIST
According to the report in Nefes, Athens and Istanbul topped the list in the study. In Athens, based on a net salary of 1,131 euros, one must set aside 222 euros for a date, which corresponds to 19.6 percent of the salary.
In Istanbul, considering a net salary of 1,005 euros, the cost of a budget-friendly date reaches 16.7 percent of the salary. This amount was calculated as 168 euros, or approximately 9,340 liras.
ISTANBUL FOLLOWED BY LISBON AND BUDAPEST
Istanbul was followed by Lisbon at 16.3 percent and Budapest at 15.6 percent relative to net salary. Thus, dating expenses have emerged as a significant budget item in major cities, especially when viewed in comparison to income levels.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE BUDGET-FRIENDLY DATE CALCULATION?
In the index reported by Euronews Business, the following are taken into account: a bottle of wine, a pair of jeans, a dress, two coffees, a dinner for two at a mid-range restaurant, two cinema tickets, two one-way public transport tickets, and a 5-kilometer taxi ride.
