Boğaziçi University's 'legendary professor' Prof. Dr. Uğur Ersoy has passed away

Prof. Dr. Uğur Ersoy, one of the prominent academics in the field of civil engineering, has passed away. The news of Ersoy's death was announced on social media by Prof. Dr. Cem Say, a faculty member at the Boğaziçi University Department of Computer Engineering.

In his post, Say referred to Ersoy as our "legendary professor" and shared the following message:

“We have lost our legendary professor, Prof. Dr. Uğur Ersoy. I wish he had not been subjected to that treatment at the gates of Boğaziçi University, where he was still serving at the age of 91. He will be remembered with the respect he deserves.”

CONDOLENCE MESSAGE FROM İMO

The Chamber of Civil Engineers (İMO) also issued a message of condolence following the passing of Prof. Dr. Uğur Ersoy. The statement noted that Ersoy had taken part in numerous scientific events organized by the Chamber.

İMO stated that Ersoy had served on the organizing committees of congresses and symposiums and had made significant contributions to reports, opinions, and recommendations prepared by the Chamber. The statement read, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Uğur Ersoy, a doyen of our profession and a teacher of teachers."

In its message, the Chamber extended its condolences to Ersoy's family, loved ones, and the İMO community.

Born in Mersin in 1932, Uğur Ersoy contributed to engineering education in Turkey for many years through his academic work in the field of civil engineering. Ersoy, who spent a significant part of his career at Middle East Technical University (METU), later also served at Boğaziçi University.
