CHP's Zeybek draws attention to voter increase in elections held in six towns

Developments that drew attention in the by-elections held in six towns have been brought to the public agenda. Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek made important assessments regarding these elections.

Zeybek thanked the citizens who participated in the election, saying, "Our people went to the polls in our 6 towns and expressed their will. We thank all our citizens who cast their votes and respectfully salute every one of our fellow citizens who stood up for democracy."

However, some concerns were also raised regarding the election process. Gökan Zeybek stated, "However, there are important points we need to address regarding this election process! The table of population movements I shared below clearly reveals the extraordinary changes that occurred during the election process. While the total number of voters in these 6 towns was 4,275 in the 2024 Local Elections, this number rose to 10,791 as of May 6, 2026. The increase in the number of voters in just two years reached 6,516 people. How this extraordinary change occurred is one of the most important questions awaiting an answer!"

In his statement, Zeybek also alleged that some public officials lost their impartiality and acted like political actors. "Unfortunately, in some of our towns, district governors have acted like political actors in the field instead of representing the impartiality of the state. Serious allegations have emerged regarding the transportation of voters from other towns through population directorates. Election boards did not take the objections made into consideration," he said.

Stating that the allegations raised during the process are left to the conscience of the public, Zeybek said, "If the result that emerged under these conditions is the 'national will,' then we call it the national will. We are recording what happened and leaving it to the discretion of the public conscience."
