Nemrut Caldera now has national park status

The Nemrut Caldera, known for its unique landscapes and standing among the natural treasures of Bitlis, will henceforth be under "national park" protection. This special region, which lies within the borders of the Tatvan, Ahlat, and Güroymak districts, was declared a national park in accordance with decision number 11629, which bears the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

With the decision published in the Official Gazette, the aim is to protect the Nemrut Caldera, which draws attention with its volcanic structure and impressive crater lakes, and to pass it on to future generations.

Following this decision, which was reached as a result of approximately two years of preparation and evaluation work, Bitlis Governor Ahmet Karakaya had announced in a statement in June that the process was in the final stages and that they were awaiting the announcement of the decision.

The Nemrut Caldera stands out as one of the region's most special natural areas due to its volcanic features, crater and hot-cold lakes, and ice caves.
