Ayaş tomato makes it into the top 10 on international list

The TasteAtlas platform, which determines the most acclaimed tomato varieties in the world, has shared its new list shaped by user votes. While Italy dominates most of the top 10 with its traditional tomato varieties, Greece's local delicacies have also secured spots in the upper rankings. However, the only product from Turkey to make the list is the famous tomato grown in Ankara's Ayaş district.

The Ayaş tomato also recently received the "Protected Designation of Origin" (PDO) registration granted by the European Union. This registration guarantees that the product's quality and production methods are directly linked to a specific geographical region. Thus, the reputation of the Ayaş tomato is now certified at both the national and international levels.

In particular, the unique climatic conditions and soil structure of the Ayaş district play a decisive role in the aroma of this tomato. The tomato's distinct flavor profile stems from the balance between sweetness and acidity, its juicy and thin-skinned structure, and the intensity provided by the day-night temperature difference during production. Experts emphasize that the water resources in the region also make a positive contribution to the flavor of the tomato.

Securing its place in eighth position among dozens of tomato varieties worldwide, the Ayaş tomato has once again highlighted the potential of Turkish agriculture and local produce. Its inclusion on the list, which is closely followed by gourmet food hunters, has increased interest in the Ayaş tomato.

In the global tomato classification, led by legendary varieties such as San Marzano and Pachino from Italy, the success of the Ayaş tomato proves that Turkey grows unique and high-quality agricultural products not only in Çanakkale but in various other regions as well.
