The desert truffle, which grows underground in Turkey during the spring months, has had a very bountiful season this year thanks to the heavy rainfall. Expert harvesting teams have obtained much higher quantities of the product compared to previous years as a result of their work in challenging terrain. This mushroom, considered a delicious member of the truffle family, is sold for between 1,700 and 2,000 liras per kilogram and has become a source of livelihood for many people.

With years of knowledge and experience, the teams can easily detect the location of desert truffles based on the characteristics of the soil. Professionals who collect an average of 35 to 40 kilograms of mushrooms per day state that some mushrooms reach weights of up to 1.5 kilograms. This meticulous harvesting activity, carried out in areas where the natural structure has not been disturbed, is performed without damaging the soil ecosystem.

Specially designed iron rods are used for the harvesting process, which is carried out using traditional methods. The teams, who have been working intensively since the end of March, managed to collect approximately 2.5 tons of desert truffles by the end of the season. With the income generated, many harvesting teams are able to afford homes, land, and vehicles.

The desert truffle draws attention with its rich protein content and finds buyers from all over Turkey. The collected mushrooms are sent to customers via cargo upon order.

This natural product also finds a special place in kitchens. It is brought to the table using different methods, particularly in varieties of pastries, roasted dishes, and grilled preparations. Its natural aroma continues to attract the interest of gastronomy enthusiasts.
