Striking 'Newborn Gang' statement to 12punto from Prof. Dr. Nurettin Demir: 'It's not just in children...'

Within the scope of the investigation into the criminal organization known as the "Newborn Gang," which has hit the public agenda like a bombshell, the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) has been appointed as a trustee to 13 hospitals and 3 companies by the decision of the Büyükçekmece 1st Criminal Court of Peace. Prof. Dr. Nurettin Demir, a former member of the CHP's Health, Family, Labor and Social Affairs Commission and an Obstetrician and Gynecologist, evaluated the events for 12punto. He issued critical warnings regarding the subsequent process.

"THERE WILL BE MORE SEVERE ONES AFTER THIS"

Starting his remarks by criticizing the Ministry of Health and the government, Prof. Dr. Demir stated the following:

"Those who appoint trustees also have major weaknesses and faults. Because they have not carried out sufficient inspections and have not taken warnings into account. First of all, they need to accept their own responsibilities and mistakes. But the dissolution and disorder in health in Turkey, unfortunately, occurred after the privatization of the health system and its being dragged into a completely monetary process, with the sudden mushrooming of private hospital chains. However, there will be more severe ones after this. I do not think these matters will be resolved just by appointing trustees. Since a justice-legal system does not work sufficiently in Turkey, such things are always tried to be resolved with such current solutions. The sensitivity of the public is being tried to be blunted."

"THERE ARE ALSO ADULTS KEPT ON LIFE SUPPORT FOR DAYS"

Underlining that the scandal is not only seen in newborns, Prof. Dr. Demir expressed the problems in the health system by saying, "Those who invest in private hospitals will make many concessions to cover the expenses of those hospitals, and these are at the forefront of those concessions. It is not just in children, that is, newborns; today there are also adults who are kept on life support for days. Unnecessary treatments are performed to earn more money. There has been a great decay in health for the last 20 years. It was clear from the beginning that privatization would be a trouble for Turkey. I don't think it will end after this either. These will not end by appointing trustees; there is a problem with the system."

"IN A TURKEY WHERE EVEN THE CONSTITUTION IS NOT FOLLOWED..."

Stating that there is a legal vacuum, Prof. Dr. Demir said, "Many events are made to be forgotten in Turkey. When the judiciary and law are not fulfilled, in a Turkey where even the Constitution is not followed, such events are forgotten very quickly and bigger scandals emerge. I think that large health institutions are not well inspected and will not be inspected," and concluded his words.
