43 people detained in investigation into Seferihisar Municipality
In an investigation into the municipality in İzmir, 43 out of 48 suspects have been detained as part of bribery and corruption allegations.
A new operation has been carried out as part of the investigation into Seferihisar Municipality in İzmir. 43 out of 48 suspects for whom detention warrants were issued under the instruction of the Seferihisar Chief Public Prosecutor's Office have been taken into custody.
The operation, conducted by teams from the İzmir Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Branch, involved simultaneous raids on numerous addresses. It was stated that the investigation concerns allegations of bribery in exchange for irregularities in construction and zoning procedures at the municipality, as well as irregularities in tenders and direct procurement processes within the municipality.
It was learned that the suspects being processed include municipal personnel and contractors. No detailed information has been shared yet regarding the identities of those detained.
As part of the investigation into Seferihisar Municipality, 25 people, including CHP Seferihisar Mayor İsmail Yetişkin and his deputies, had previously been detained on June 25.
During that process, 12 people, including Yetişkin, were arrested on June 30, and the Ministry of Interior suspended İsmail Yetişkin from duty on the same day. With this latest operation, it is assessed that the investigation has been expanded to cover municipal transactions and related company connections.
