Toppled by two articles
Although it was none of my business, the stirring speech by the lawyer from the Aegean region at the Izmir Bar Association elections triggered such a sense of patriotism within us that I began following the Istanbul Bar Association elections.
Despite the current administration's political drift and being shown as the clear favorite due to the support they received from politicians, I supported the candidate of the Müdafaa-i Hukuk (Defense of Law) supporters in both articles I wrote.
Ignoring suggestions like, "Professor, you are supporting the one who won't win again," I tried to provide direction for Ümit Hoca and his team as much as I could, even though I have never met Ümit Hoca in my life.
Even though some Atatürkists were caught in between and were saying, "It makes Ümit Hoca's job harder" by supporting Second Republicans who do not like the word "Turk," we continued our support so that our side would be clear.
Judging by the folk dances at the election results, the lawyers who danced the harmandalı and zeybek out of joy and the lawyers who sang "Çırpınırdı Karadeniz" from the heart have finished the job.
In fact, I do not know how effective my articles were, but I think that their own rhetoric and the jargon that disturbed people were more effective than my articles in toppling the current administration.
On this occasion, I congratulate the new administration of the Istanbul Bar Association once again through Ümit Hoca and wish it to be auspicious for the Turkish legal profession.
