In the fifth hearing where 8 detained defendants, including 3 public officials, were being tried, it was decided that boss Ali Osman Akat and Abdurrahman Bayat would be released, while the detention of the other defendants, İsmail Oransal, Altay Ali Oransal, Gökberk Güngör, and public officials Cengiz Taşdemir, Nizamettin Balcı, and Necati Temiz, would continue.
While the next hearing was adjourned to March 23, 2027, Attorney Kerim Bütün, one of the lawyers for the workers' families, spoke to 12punto regarding the hearing.
‘NOT EVEN A YEAR HAS PASSED’
Regarding the release of boss Ali Osman Akat, Attorney Bütün stated, “Not even a year has passed since 7 workers, including 3 children, lost their lives in the massacre in Dilovası, and Ali Osman Akat, who describes himself as a ‘big whale’ and whose photos with Erdoğan and Süleyman Soylu have received extensive coverage in the press, has been released. There are now only 6 detained defendants left in this file where 7 workers lost their lives.”
‘IT IS CLEARLY SEEN IN EVERY HEARING OF THE MASSACRE FILE’
Regarding the hearing and the situation, Attorney Bütün commented, “The extent to which the workers who lost their lives were forced to work under heavy and inhumane conditions is clearly seen in every hearing of this massacre file. We are talking about a factory where even lunch was begrudged to the workers, no protective equipment was provided, no occupational health and safety measures were taken, there was no fire escape, public officials who came for inspections left the factory without conducting inspections in exchange for gift perfumes and cosmetic products—that is, by taking bribes—and there was no EIA report.”
‘WE WILL CONTINUE THE STRUGGLE’
Finally, Attorney Bütün said, “The Dilovası case is a massacre case where all these facts are revealed once again in every hearing, showing how bosses add wealth to their wealth by disregarding the lives of workers. Despite this, we face a release decision at every session. But we also know the reason for this. Because in Turkey, the judiciary is the apparatus of domination for the ruling class and the bosses. As the lawyers for the workers in this case, we will continue the struggle with this awareness.”
