60 people lose their lives due to cold weather in Afghanistan

Afghanistan has been experiencing freezing cold, rain, and heavy snowfall in some parts of the country in recent weeks, with temperatures dropping as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius.

Spokesperson for the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority Janan Saeq stated in a statement that 60 people have lost their lives in the country within the last 3 weeks due to heavy snow, severe rain, and freezing cold.

Saeq used the expressions, "During this period, more than 1,600 houses were partially or completely destroyed, and more than 177 thousand livestock perished due to the cold weather."

Saeq noted that with the cooperation of the National Disaster Management Authority and international organizations, food, essential supplies, and cash assistance have been provided to more than 22 thousand 400 families in different parts of the country.
