Interim ruling on Dilan and Engin Polat: Detention to continue

The court has announced its interim ruling in the case concerning the shooting at the beauty center owned by social media influencer Banu Parlak. The court decided that the detention of Dilan, Engin, and Sezgin Polat will continue.

Interim ruling on Dilan and Engin Polat: Detention to continue

The beauty center belonging to social media influencer Banu Parlak, located in the Bahçeşehir 1st Section Doğa Park, was shot at by suspects on motorcycles on October 1, 2023, between 02:00 and 04:30.

The trial, in which Dilan, Engin, and Sezgin Polat face charges of 'incitement' as part of the indictment prepared regarding the incident, continued at the Küçükçekmece Courthouse.

Following the defense statements of the couple Dilan and Engin Polat, Engin Polat's father, Sezgin Polat, denied the accusations, stating, "I have no connection to the shooting of Ms. Banu's workplace."

'I FIRED 4 SHOTS'

Nizamettin Bilgili, one of the defendants who shot at Banu Parlak's workplace, said, "I am seeing these people here for the first time. I was intoxicated at home on the day of the incident. Yunus Emre came. He said, 'The workplace will be shot at, will you do it?' Because I was hesitant due to the influence of alcohol, I accepted. I got the location and went. The gun jammed the first time. I fired 4 shots," he stated.

'WE MADE A MESS OF IT'

Detained defendant Yunus Emre Yıldız said, "I only know the Polat name from television. I don't know Banu Parlak either. I lost my father at a young age. The burden of the house was on me. We were told that no living thing would be harmed. We were only told that the windows would be broken. We also needed money. We did this job just for money. And we made a mess of it," he said.

During the taking of statements, Dilan Polat turned to her daughter and began to cry, saying, "I love you very much."

'HE SAYS HE DOESN'T KNOW ME BUT...'

Following the defendants, the complainant Banu Parlak made a statement. Stating that she maintains her complaint, Parlak recounted that Dilan Polat called her on the evening her shop was shot at.

Banu Parlak said, "Dilan told me, 'They took Sıla inside. They will take Engin and me too, look, don't do this.' That night, my shop was shot at. I posted a story and said I was going to the shop. It was shot at again. I don't think this crime is just property damage." Referring to Engin Polat's statement that he did not know her, Parlak said, "Engin says he doesn't know me, but we have videos together with Engin; I can present them to the court."

Stating that she and Dilan Polat were friends until 2019, Banu Parlak said, "When I opened the beauty center, all the events started. After this shooting incident, my shops closed down. I am more concerned about my daughter's safety than my own."

'I WATCHED IN ASTONISHMENT'

When asked for her response to Banu Parlak's statements, Dilan Polat said, "I watched in astonishment. I think she did this entirely to target and smear me. I am a public figure who operates 130 branches." Engin Polat said, "She is someone who has never been on the sidelines of my life. She has placed us at the center of her life. I do not know her."

On the other hand, after the complainant's statements, Dilan Polat cried while hugging her daughter in the courtroom. The presiding judge requested that a tissue be given to Polat.

During the hearing, Public Prosecutor Barış Boyun requested that the execution of the arrest warrants for Batın Can Gökdemir and Beratcan Gökdemir be awaited and that the detention of the imprisoned defendants be continued.

The hearing was adjourned for an interim decision.

THEIR DETENTION WILL CONTINUE

Announcing its interim ruling, the court decided to continue the arrest warrants and the detention of the imprisoned defendants.

The court ruled that the file be merged with the case at the Istanbul 41st High Criminal Court and adjourned the hearing.

Meanwhile, Dilan Polat had a nervous breakdown upon hearing the decision to continue detention. Polat left the courtroom with the gendarmerie, screaming 'Nida'.
