Father rushing to help at accident scene in Antalya discovers the deceased driver is his son

Two people lost their lives and 3 were injured in a collision between two cars in the Serik district of Antalya. The tragedy was compounded when Cevdet Durmaz, who was passing by the scene and approached the vehicle to help, realized that the driver was his son, Taner Durmaz.

The accident occurred at around 04:42 on Saturday at the Aspendos Junction on Belek Street. The car with license plate 07 AOE 962, driven by Taner Durmaz (31), who was traveling from the direction of Serik toward Belek, collided with a car with license plate 06 EDV 267, driven by S.B.U., which was coming from the opposite direction while turning at the junction.

Upon notification, health, police, and fire crews were dispatched to the scene. Health teams determined that Taner Durmaz, a staff member at the Serik Municipality Parks and Gardens Directorate, and Mustafa Meke (36), one of the district's well-known musicians who was in the same vehicle, had lost their lives at the scene. The foreign national driver of the other vehicle, S.B.U., and 2 passengers whose names were not learned, were taken to the hospital.

FATHER STOPPED TO HELP, SAW HIS SON

Immediately after the accident, Cevdet Durmaz, who works as a cleaning staff member at the municipality, was passing by the scene while heading to the construction site with a garbage truck. When Durmaz and his colleagues saw the accident, they stopped to help. The father, who ran to the vehicle upon the warnings of those around, was in great shock when he realized the driver was his son.

We stopped to help. Friends said, 'Uncle, run, Taner and Mustafa are inside the vehicle.' I looked and saw my son Taner and his friend Mustafa lying inside the car.

Stating that he witnessed his son's final moments, Cevdet Durmaz said, "I held my son's head and turned it toward me. He opened one eye, then closed it, and his neck fell to the side. May God not show this to anyone. It is a very difficult situation."

The funerals of Taner Durmaz and Mustafa Meke were laid to rest at the Yazır Cemetery in Serik amidst tears. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
